The Mindanao Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Group of the National Transmission Corp. (TransCo) has received the prestigious Integrated Management System (IMS) certificate from German audit firm TÜV Group.
TransCo said it was able to bag the certificate after hurdling the independent audit conducted by the international certifying group.
Masanori Matsuda, managing director of TÜV SÜD PSB Phil. Inc., said the IMS certification would help TransCo maintain existing quality processes and productivity standards.
The certification also affirms TransCo Mindanao’s compliance with international standards on quality management (ISO 9001:2000), environmental management (ISO 14001:2004) and occupational health and safety (OHSAS 18001:1999).
TransCo president Arthur N. Aguilar said the IMS certification is a “testament to TransCo’s commitment to be globally-competitive and continuously improve our processes so we can better serve the people of Mindanao even as we face many great challenges in the region.”
The IMS certification audit involved the assessment of 47 TransCo facilities in Mindanao including the regional office in Iligan City, six district offices, two power system maintenance departments, 12 branch offices and 21 substations.
TransCo’s Mindanao O&M Group also operates and maintains the network of around 5,548 circuit-kilometers of transmission lines all over Mindanao.
Its customers include 32 electric distribution utilities and 25 directly-connected industries.
In August 2005, Mindanao O&M received the ISO 9001:2000 certification for quality management system (QMS) as part of its efforts to continuously improve processes in the workplace.
Four other TransCo units have been IMS-certified, namely, North Luzon O&M in April 2006, Visayas O&M in February 2007, Project Management in November 2007 and System Operations in May 2008.
