Following a successful venture into the “carinderia” industry, Jollibee Foods Corp. is building nine more Manong Pepe’s stores to grow its network to 12 by the end of the year.
Rufino Dela Rosa, president of JFC’s Chowking operations, said the new Manong Pepe’s outlets will rise in Pasig, Lawton, Dapitan, Edsa Cubao, Recto and Morayta. Each store, he said, is estimated to cost P3 million.
These new stores are in addition to the existing outlets in Edsa Central Mandaluyong, South Station and Alabang.
Aside from this, the JFC Group will build a commissary to service Manong Pepe as it is ready to take this cheapest section in the food service industry to a higher level of quality and efficiency.
Manong Pepe’s Karinderia serves Filipino food at reasonable price points and aimed mainly at people in the work force in urban centers.
The Jollibee group of companies operates the country’s biggest food service network with a total of 1,469 stores in the Philippines as of end-April this year – 628 Jollibee, 376 Chowking, 236 Greenwich, 28 Delifrance, 196 Red Ribbon and three Manong Pepe’s.
Overseas, the group had 194 stores – 108 Yonghe King in China, 15 Jollibee, 22 Red Ribbon and 12 Chowking stores in the United States, nine and five Chowking in Dubai and Indonesia, respectively, 22 Jollibee stores in other countries and one Chun Sui Tang tea house in China.
