On a break

I will be away for a couple of weeks for my annual sabbatical leave. My commentaries on issues of the day will resume on the 6th of June.

Collegiate Champions League update

One of the exciting features of this year’s search for the national collegiate champion is the regional championships. The Collegiate Champions League introduced this phase starting this year to give the collegiate teams participating in various leagues in cities and provinces all over the country the opportunity to advance to the next level of competition where they will compete with other league winners.

The regional championship will also be a big boost in the effort to develop and expose local talents. The players of collegiate teams that advance to the regional championship are provided with the competitive venue where they can show their mettle not just within the confines of their respective “mother leagues” but also across provincial borders.

There will be nine regional champions that will represent the following regional areas: Regional area 1 – Ilocos, Pangasinan, Mountain Province; Regional area 2 – Tarlac, Zambales, Pampanga and Bulacan; Regional area 3 – Batangas, Quezon and Bicol provinces; Regional area 4 – Iloilo and Negros provinces; Regional area 5 – Dumaguete and Bohol, Regional area 6 – Leyte, Ormoc and Samar; Regional area 7 – Cagayan de Oro, Iligan, Misamis Oriental and Caraga; Regional 8 – Davao, Socsargen and Maguindanao; and Regional area 9 – Zamboanga (cities and provinces) and Misamis Occidental.

The locations for the regional championship games are being finalized and will be announced shortly. Watch this space for more update on the biggest collegiate basketball event of the year, the 2008 Philippine Collegiate Championship games.
