No power interruptions during holidays – TransCo

- Donnabelle L. Gatdula -

The National Transmission Corp. (TransCo) has assured its readiness to implement measures to prevent any power system disturbance during the Lenten celebration.

TransCo president Arthur N. Aguilar said contingency measures are already in place nationwide in case of any power system disturbance and other emergencies during the four-day holiday from March 20-23.

Aguilar said TransCo has assigned its vice presidents and assistant vice presidents for operation and maintenance and system operations as “officers-of-the-day” to oversee operations during the country’s observance of the Lenten season.

District and branch personnel of TransCo’s operation and maintenance groups in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao as well as system operations area control center engineers will be coordinating closely with their counterparts from the National Power Corp. (Napocor), Meralco, distribution utilities, electric cooperatives and other customers.

Line crews and power system engineers throughout the country will also be available to lend support especially during emergencies.

Data from TransCo’s System Operations Group show that Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have a total supply of 5,800 megawatts on March 20 (Maundy Thursday), more than enough to meet the projected peak demand of 4,200 mw.

On March 21 (Good Friday), the total supply in the Luzon grid is projected at 5,800 MW and peak demand at 4,000 mw.

On Black Saturday, the available capacity in Luzon has been placed at 6,197 mw against the peak demand forecast of 4,800 mw.

On Easter Sunday, Luzon will have an available supply of 6,197 mw and a peak demand of around 5,000 mw.
