Miners’ group, PSE set IPO seminar for mining firms

-

The Chamber of Mines of the Philippines (COMP) and the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) will jointly hold a one-day seminar called “How to undertake an IPO” (initial public offering) on Feb. 29, 2008 at the Grand Ballroom of the InterContinental Manila.

The COMP and PSE have invited Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Jose “Lito” Atienza to deliver the keynote address while PSE president Francis Lim will discuss stock market updates and development.

COMP president Benjamin Philip Romualdez said COMP members who plan to raise capital from the stock market need to understand the current processes in IPO listing, especially with the implementation of the Philippine Mineral Reporting Code (PMRC) patterned after the Joint Ore Reserves Committee (JORC) Code of Australia.

The PMRC ensures ore reserve valuation by competent persons by companies going public.

In the process, the PMRC helps companies build credibility and confidence while at the same time giving the public added assurance of protection.

Officials from the PSE and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will let participants walk through the processes from listing to underwriting.

Dr. Walter Brown, chairman and chief executive officer of Philex Mining Corp. (Philex), will discuss Philex’s experience as a publicly listed company and how it is adjusting to challenges in the global mining scene.
