Tax payment deadline extended for Makati firms

- Iris Gonzales -

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has extended until Monday, Dec. 3, the deadline for Makati-based taxpayers filing their third quarter corporate income tax returns and for paying their tax obligations due to unforeseen events last Thursday.

On Thursday, Sen. Antonio Trillianes IV, former Scout Ranger chief Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim and several  supporters walked out of a court hearing in Makati and gathered at the Peninsula Manila Hotel to drum up support for another “people power”-style revolt but authorities later forced them out of the hotel.

With the incident, the BIR said taxpayers covered by Revenue District Offices 47, 48, 49 and 50 and the Makati Large Taxpayers District Office have until Monday to file their BIR Forms 1702Q or their third quarter corporate income tax return and to pay their dues.

The deadline for filing and paying their tax dues was supposed to be last Thursday.

“Taxpayers of the aforementioned offices who failed to file and pay on the aforesaid date were likewise given an extension of time to file and pay until Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, without imposition of penalty for late filing and payment,” the BIR said in its announcement yesterday.

The third quarter corporate income tax covers the months of July, August and September and is due for payment on or before Nov. 29.

All third quarter income tax returns or BIR Form 1702Q must have been filed and tax payments must have been paid on Nov. 29.

The BIR noted that the agency’s Revenue District Offices 47, 48, 49 and 50 and the Makati Large Taxpayers District Office are at the Atrium Building which was very near the Peninsula Manila Hotel in Makati.

“Hence, the BIR decided to relax the existing policies on the strict implementation of the jurisdictional venue for filing and payment and extended the deadline to the following working day,” the BIR said.
