Hong Kong based Shangri-La Hotel and Resort Inc. announced yesterday it will invest more than P500 million in its Mandaluyong hotel Edsa Shangri-La to create a spa and modernize existing facilities.
The hotel, which is 99.99-percent foreign owned, said it will upgrade and modernize its Garden Wing and the Horizon Club for P385.63 million.
The entire make-over will cover 192 rooms. This will involve the renovation and complete refurbishing of the rooms and lounges with new furniture and fixtures, carpet, lighting, and other facilities.
For the Garden Wing, the guestrooms will follow the tropical paradise theme of the hotel. Guests for the wing will not be required to use the main lobby because it will have its own private check-in.
The rooms and suites will be extra luxurious rooms as guests will enjoy special amenities and privileges, including in-room pay-per-view movies, and in-room facsimile with private line.
Meanwhile, the Horizon Club which will be located at the top three executive floors of the hotel’s Garden Wing, is an exclusive retreat that will offer a higher standard of accommodation, personalized service and exclusive privileges to guests.
In addition to the refurbishments, another P126.5 million will be invested for a spa featuring 10 treatment rooms. Apart from the treatment suites and treatment rooms for couples, guests will be provided with a spa bar for light refreshments and a spa menu.
The Chi Spa will target the high-end market providing facilities and services far superior and different to the regular spa establishments in the city.
The spa will offer the signature ‘Chi’ therapies, the signature spa of the Shangri-la Hotels. Chi therapies are based on the Five Elements (water, fire, earth, metal, wood), combined with exercise, stretching, massage, hydrotherapy, life enhancement programs and movement of the mind through relaxation and meditation.
Another spa facility is the New Holistic Life Enhancement with Kinesis equipment free-motion studio for yoga, breathing and lifestyle classes, small changing rooms, lockers and shower for outside guests as well as hand and foot care suite room.
