San Miguel Corp. (SMC) subsidiary San Miguel Foods Inc. will construct P167 million worth of broiler farm in an attempt to improve poultry production.

The Board of Investments (BOI) has given the project fiscal and non fiscal incentives for the agribusiness project.

The broiler farm will be operational by October. San Miguel will construct the 273,600 bird model/training broiler farm as part of the Integrated Agro Industrial Zone. It will serve as a showcase to contractors for the new technology.

The production capacity is around two million grown broilers per year with an average liveweight of 2.2 kg per bird.

The project will adapt the Controlled Climate Housing System technology that will use tunner ventilation, cross ventilation and evaporative cooling systems.

The project will generate 46 new jobs. San Miguel said the project supports the food self sufficiency policy of the government.

“By encouraging chicken production, we can prevent food shortage of supply of chicken in the future and we can avoid importation which will save dollar reserves of the country,” San Miguel said.
