Intel sees continued export growth

Intel Technology Philippines Inc. (ITPI) is optimistic of continued positive export growth this year, according to Arlita Narag, corporate affairs manager of Intel Philippines, following the firm’s 2006 export sales of P4.831 billion.

In a press conference on Intel’s Corporate Social Responsibility report for 2006, Narag said that based on the  industry trend of a continued positive growth for the electronics and semi-conductor sector, Intel is likewise expecting continued positive growth for the firm’s export sales this year.

Narag also reported that the American chip maker has made tremendous strides in terms of its CSR last year.

In terms of the environment, Narag reported, Intel last year was able to recycle, through an external vendor, 72 percent or about 245 tons of its solid waste.

According to Narag, Intel partnered with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and a private cement firm in recycling its hazardous waste as alternative fuel and raw materials in the cement co-processing, a first in the country and among Intel sites in Asia.

Intel has implemented engineering and administrative control management to further reduce consumption and generation of hazardous material through packaging modification, inventory management, pot-life extension, and process optimization, Narag said

"Such steps, Narag said, reduced Intel’s generation of waste materials annually by 15 percent," Narag said.

Intel also generated energy savings of $200,300 equivalent to 6,071,812 kilowatt hours as a result of lighting fixture modification and excessive electrical loading management.

Intel, Narag continued, provided P16.5 million in grants to 30 public schools in the municipality of General Trias to train 8,303 teachers nationwide in the use of technology for teaching.

Intel had invested  P3 billion to expand its manufacturing operations at the Gateway Business Park.

ITPI, which is registered with the Philippine Export Zone Authority (PEZA), is engaged in the manufacture/assembly and test of microprocessor integrated circuits specifically known as Pentium and nine other projects related to semiconductor/electronics activities.

ITPI  engages in the assembly, sorting and test of Tyax wireless flash memory products.

It also does Trumbull Known Good Die (KGD) wafer testing as well as the assembly and testing of  the IXP2400 (Sausalito) product.
