Koreas Samsung Electronics Philippines Corp. (SEPCO) is projecting a two-to-three percent increase in its mobile phone sales this year with the introduction of three new models.
In a press presentation, Samsung introduced its Ultra Edition line comprised of the 9.9 mm ultra slim clam shell model, the 12.9 mm slide up phone and worlds slimmest 6.9 mm bar phone.
The Ultra Edition boast of a fashionable and functional design. According to Hyuck Jae Shim, president and chief executive officer of SEPCO, Samsungs mobile phones currently ranks number two with a 20-percent market share.
Samsung, Shim admitted, expects a prolonged battle to gain the top spot from current market leader Nokia.
However, Samsung is confident that its technology improvement in its mobile phone segment will eventually allow the company to increase its market share.
However, Shim admitted that most of Samsungs current mobile phone models are only up to 2.5G capable.
Samsung plans to introduce some 3G capable models, but such units would be more to establish presence.
