NEC Phils sees double digit growth this year

NEC Philippines is projecting double digit growth this year and its revenues to double in the next two years, NEC Philippines executive vice president and country manager, Leonardo Santos said yesterday.

Santos, along with NEC president and chief executive officer of NEC Solutions Asia Pacific (NECSAP) Tomohiro Yagi, expressed optimism about the company’s business prospects in the Philippines especially in the field of information technology (IT) solutions.

NEC’s IT solutions segment currently accounts for up to 80 percent of NEC’s revenues, while 20 percent to 25 percent is from its telecommunications solutions.

In its latest fiscal year which ended March 2006, Santos said, NEC Philippines posted a revenue of just under P200 million, almost double the P100 million it generated in 2004.

Since 1996, Yagi said, NEC has infused a total of P260 million in its operations in the Philippines.

NEC Philippines, Santos disclosed, is currently talking to the government about the possibility of providing its biometrics software for the national ID system as well as passport system.

NEC, Santos said, already provides the Philippine National Police (PNP) with an automated fingerprint identification service (AFIS).

Aside from the government, however, NEC is also eyeing other businesses in the field of banking and finance as well as in the retail sector.
