The hotel, to be named Manila Marriott Hotel, will start construction this year and is expected to be completed not later than 2009.
The hotel will occupy seven hectares of the 25-hectare property being developed by Megaworld into a multi-purpose development project called Newport City.
Megaworld formed a new company Travellers International Hotel Group to serve as its corporate vehicle for hotel operations in partnership with Marriott Hotels International B.V.
Under the management contract, Marriott will supervise, direct and control the operation of the 356-room hotel.
Marriott will also provide technical services in an advisory capacity during the course of the design and construction of the hotel as well as other services generally made available to hotels in the Marriott system, such as international advertising, marketing, promotion and sales programs and the Marriott reservation and property management systems.
In addition, Marriott extended to Travellers the right and license within Manila to use the Marriott trademarks for hotel services and other related goods and services offered in connection with the hotel.
Marriott International owns the Marriott chain of first-class, full-service hotels worldwide. In 2004, it posted revenues of $10 billion.
Marriott Hotels are located in major gateway cities worldwide including Atlanta, Houston, Miami, Washington, D.C., Bangkok, Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Quito (Ecuador), Lima and Mexico City.
Marriotts hotel at Newport City is the first in Metro Manila and the second in the country after Cebu.
Aside from a first-class hotel, the Newport City urban resort project will host a low-density residential area, an office park, a themed shopping and entertainment hub and an institutional center featuring a sports club, a church and other community facilities and services.
The commercial and entertainment hub will have a shopping village as its centerpiece, while the business park is designed to be the headquarters of information technology and business process outsourcing companies as well as those engaged in airport-related services.
