Prices of vegetables remain stable — DA

The Department of Agriculture (DA) said prices of vegetables and other agricultural products have remained steady despite the weekly increases in the prices of fuel in the last three weeks.

The DA said that based on the reports of the monitoring teams of the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS) and Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Service (AMAS) that summed up prevailing prices in 24 markets, including selected Huwarang Palengke outlets in the metropolis, there has been no remarkable spike in food prices.

The trend in prices of prime goods being monitored by BAS and AMAS from May 27 to June 3 levels show that in all Huwarang Palengke outlets, prices of goods were unchanged.

Prices of ordinary well-milled rice is still at P 21 per kilo while special rice sells at P 23.

The prices of meat and poultry in majority of the markets were steady. At Farmers Market in Cubao, prices of belly and whole chicken even went down by P 10 per kilo, pork buto-buto by P 4 and chicken egg by P 0.10 a piece.

The prices of bangus, tilapia and galunggong were the same at P 90, P 70 and P 70, respectively. But in Farmer’s Market, Concepion, Polo and New Dagonoy Markets prices of bangus and galunggong went up by P 5 to P 10.

In some Muntinlupa markets, prices of tilapia and bangus remained the same, except for the P 5 decrease in Polo and Mutya ng Pasig markets.

The prices of lowland vegetables generally remain the same as of last week’s level except in some markets where prices went down.

Price of ampalaya declined in Concepion and Marikina by P 10 per kilo and Farmer’s at P 5. Eggplant prices went down in Aling Clara by P 10 and Polo at P 5. The price of pechay tagalog also decreased by P 5 to P 20 per kilo in majority of the markets covered. On the other hand, price of tomato was up by P 5 per kilo.

Prices of cooking oil, refined and brown sugar generally remain the same in all markets except for the P 2 decrease per kilo on the price of brown sugar in Muñoz market. However, there was an increase of P 1 per bottle in the price of cooking oil in the same market.
