Car sales up 10.15% in Jan-Nov

- Marianne V. Go -
Car sales went up by 10.15 percent to 87,974 units in the first 11 months of the year from 79,869 units in the same period last year, according to a preliminary report released yesterday

Accounting for the overall increase in automotive sales was a 12.22-percent growth in commercial vehicle sales and a 6.73-percent increase in passenger car sales.

Commercial vehicle sales from January to November this year totaled 55,816 units as compared to only 49,740 units sold for the comparable first 11 months last year.

The 12.22-percent growth in commercial vehicle sales was due to sustained new model sales from the pickup and compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) segments.

Passenger car sales for the 11 months in review posted a 6.73-percent growth with total sales of 32,158 units as against last year’s 30,129 units.

Industry sources attributed the increase in passenger car sales to continued aggressive marketing and financing promos.

Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. still dominated the market with sales of 31.933 units from January to November this year, cornering 36.30 percent of the market.

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. retained its No. 2 slot with sales of 11,997 units, accounting for 13.6 percent of the automotive market.

Honda Cars Philippines Inc. grabbed the No. 3 spot with sales of 8,852 units for a market share of 10.1 percent, easing out Isuzu which slid to the No. 4 slot with sales of 8,653 units and a market share of 9.8 percent

At No. 5 was Ford Motors Philippines with sales of 7,618 units and a market share of 8.7 percent.
