Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) is intensifying efforts to generate further awareness on public safety, especially during the summer months.
"We need to make the public more aware of the need to put importance on public safety most especially during the summer months" said Fred Ramos, head of Meralcos Safety Office.
"Part of this campaign is to inform the public regarding the danger of getting near or in contact with our line facilities particularly for those involved in construction-related activities," Ramos said.
Meralco vice president for corporate communication Elpi Cuna, for his part, said the company has launched an information campaign on public safety.
"We really need to make the public aware that safety is of paramount concern. We are currently conducting an information drive in order to make our campaign more effective" Cuna added.
Both officials also said the ongoing media drive intends to target, among others, construction personnel including crane and boom operators, homeowners with untrimmed trees and kite flyers, most especially children.
Since construction activities are expected to peak at this time of year, Meralco is also coordinating with local building officials, including affiliate organizations, to further boost the information drive.
