5 TV makers get DTI quality certification mark

The Department of Trade and Industry’s Bureau of Product Standards (BPS) has issued the PS Quality Certification mark licenses to five television set manufacturers after passing the requirements set in the Philippine National Standard (PNS).

Trade and Industry Secretary Juan B. Santos said with the certification of the five TV manufacturers, the buying public can now confidently purchase their TV sets with the assurance that the TV sets meet quality and safety performance standards.

The five manufacturer which passed the BPS criteria are: KEC-Astron Philippines Inc. with brand names Oclar, Switch, Minami and Singer; Panasonic AVC Networks Kuala Lumpur Malaysia with the brand name Panasonic; Sharp Philippines Corp. with the brand name Sharp; Sony EMCS with the brand name Sony; and TCL Sun Inc. with the brand name TCL.

The BPS had imposed the mandatory product certification of imported and locally-produced TV sets to ensure that the public gets only safe and reliable products.

Under the BPS product certification scheme, all manufacturers/assemblers and importers of colored and black-and- white TV sets are required to have their products tested at the BPS testing center or any BPS-accredited or recognized laboratory to determine if the products meet the safety and quality requirements .

Only those that pass the tests are issued the Philippine Standard (PS) license and the Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) for locally-manufactured and imported products, respectively.
