Pajero units sold in RP not part of Mitsubishi recall order

Trade Undersecretary Adrian S. Cristobal, on behalf of Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp., said yesterday that Pajero units sold in the country and still currently marketed by Mitsubishi dealers are not included in the recall being implemented by Mitsubishi Motors Japan.

Following a meeting with MMPC official, it was learned that only diesel models of Pajero 1997 and 1998 model were sold in the Philippines, while the recall in Japan covers the gas units of the said models.

Cristobal met with the MMPC officials to clarify the coverage of the recall and allay the fears of Pajero owners.

Cristobal expressed appreciation for the visit of MMPC president and chief executive officer Kengo Takase who explained the recall order.

Takase reportedly assured Cristobal that MMPC is still in the process of conducting a thorough review on the implications of the recall.

MMPC, Cristobal said, promised to keep the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) of any developments about the recall of Pajero units.

Mitsubishi Motors Japan has been hit by a series of insurance claims regarding its Colt and Pajero models which have figures in a series of accidents.
