BOC hikes storage rates in NAIA warehouses

- Rey Arquiza -
The Bureau of Customs (BoC) increased yesterday the rates of service, storage and other charges on articles or merchandise stored at the Customs bonded warehouses (CBWs) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) complex.

In increasing the service storage rates, BoC Commissioner Antonio Bernardo took into account the facilities CBW operators provide despite the present economic difficulties to maintain them.

Affected by the new rates of service storage and other charges on articles stored at the CBWs at the NAIA are the Philippine Skylanders Inc., Philippine Airlines, PairCargo, Delbros, Cargohaus, DHL Philippines and Miascor Logistics.

The new rates are the following:

• For general cargo, the new rate for a minimum charge is P1.17/kg/day. For exceptions documents and diplomatic pouches, P45/day, or an increase of almost 30 percent for both.

• For special cargo, which includes baggage and personal effects, from P0.88/kg/day to P1.17/kg/day; perishables, valuable cargo, dangerous drugs and restricted articles, live animals, fowls, plants and human remains, from P1.76/kg/day to P2.35/kg/day.

For shipments whose weight per airways bill is less than 100 kgs, the new rate is P0.46/kg/day from the previous rate of P0.34/kg/day, and P68/kg/day for shipments whose weight is more than 100 kgs.

Special cargo is defined as baggage and personal effects and handled with special care, perishables are those that require storage under specified temperatures, while valuable cargo is defined as shipments identified therein and require special treatment pursuant to the IATA regulations.
