The insurance card comes in the form of a scratch card, similar to the scratch card for phone loads or Internet access. The card comes in a plastic packet containing the card and the printed certificate of insurance (COI). There are three different card types, depending on the duration of the insurance coverage. There is the 3-day Viaje, 7-day Viaje and 30-day Viaje cards. All cards carry a P100,000 insurance coverage against the misfortunes of accidents during their travel. However, the buyer is allowed to increase the coverage to a maximum of P500,000 by simply buying and activating more cards.
Activating the insurance is easy. The buyer simply scratches the back of the card to reveal the card PIN number. He then texts his or her personal details to an access number provided at the back of the card. He then signs the policy which is enclosed in the packet. He is already covered with the insurance. Again, its as easy as scratch, text and sign!
The text service is for provided by reputable SMS gateways. Wireless Services Asia (WSA) is the one handling the SMS from the Viaje buyer who uses a Globe or Touch Mobile phone. I-Con, a sister company of Smart is the one handling the Smart and Talk N Text service. Both gateways provide value to the back-end system of the Viaje Travel Insurance Cards. Such value-added services include, notification of expiring insurance coverage within three-hours prior to expiry, a help menu for a listing of all available keywords, a listings of all claims documents needed and contact numbers of the insurance company. All of these by just keying-in some keywords.
Viaje Travel Insurance cards are available in most telecommunication shops selling pre-paid load, at store in-and-around bus terminals, piers and airports, travel agency or Fortune Guarantee Insurance agents. The Viaje cards costs P20 for the 3-day, P50 for the 7-day and P100 for the 30-day.
