CDC president Emmanuel Y. Angeles said Mahogany Door, Inc. (MDI) will set up a company for handmade mahogany doors which will be exclusively exported to the United States.
According to Angeles, Clark-made furniture are still among the most sought after home furnishings in the world, a testament to Filipino craftsmanship in making simple yet elegant furniture products.
Angeles signed the lease agreement with Zev Garoon, president of MDI, which is expected to employ close to 250 employees during its operations in the first year alone.
He said the availability of international airport and the world-wide air cargo services being provided by the United Parcel Services (UPS) prompted the firm to establish its manufacturing firm in Clark.
Today, Clark has several furniture makers, the Golden Cane Furniture Manufacturing Corp., Victoria Export and Import, Inc. and Mecca Manufacturing, Phils. Inc., which all export finished products to the US, Europe, Canada, Japan, Korea and South America markets, and in other Asian countries.
Various furniture firms have provided thousands of jobs to residents of Pampanga and in other adjoining provinces.
