Export earnings from the Subic Freeport went up by 22 percent to $76.401 million in January from P62.870 million in the same period a year ago, Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) chairman Felicito C. Payumo reported yesterday.
According to Payumo, the January export value is a good start.
He expressed optimism that "our export performance figures will continue to pick up from the decline recorded during the previous year."
One-Stop Export Documentation Center-Subic (OSECDC) manager Noel Tuliao noted that Taiwanese computer maker, Wistron Infocomm, a subsidiary of Acer Computers posted export earnings of $55.849 million in January alone.
Tuliao also reported that electric machineries and appliance manufacturer Sanyo Denki ranked second among the top 10 exporters of the month with $4.528 million, while Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) parts manufacturer, Omron Corp. followed with $4.206 million.
Japanese wood processor Juken Sangyo (Phils.) came next with $2.237-billion export value.
Exports from the Subic Bay Freeport registered a decline last year due to the decrease in shipments of Taiwanese computer giant Wistron Infocomm Philippines Corp. (formerly Acer Corp.).
Winstrons exports was cut by more than half last year due to poor market conditions.
