Congress backs Subic-Clark-Tarlac road project

- Marianne V. Go -
The House of Representatives recently approved a resolution supporting the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Extension Project (SCTEX2) which will help economic development in Central and Northern Luzon.

House Resolution No. 791, authorized by Rep. Mark Cojuangco of the 5th District of Pangasinan, cited the BCDA for its development effort.

The House Resolution urged support for the BCDA’s SCTEX2 so that the former US military base facilities in Central and Northern Luzon could become engines of economic growth.

The 84.5 kilometer four-Ian SCTEX2 is a high-speed expressway that will be connected to the soon to be constructed Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway Project (SCTEP) which will start from Tarlac and link Club John Hay in Baguio and Poro Point in San Fernando before ending in Rosario, La Union.

The House Resolution noted that SCTEX2 would augment the roadway capacity of the north-south transportation trunkline in Northwestern Luzon and Metro Manila.

SCTEX would also connect food production sources, labor and tourist destinations in Central and Northern Luzon to the populations and markets in the National Capital Region (NCR).

Once completed, SCTEX would form part of the infrastructure backbone of the Subic-Clark Alliance for Development (SCAD) where the development of the SCTEP, the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport and the Subic Freeport would be integrated to form an efficient logistical hub in Central Luzon.
