Globe Telecom maintains rank in FEER survey

-
Globe Telecom maintained its fourth place ranking in the 2003 Far Eastern Economic Review (FEER) 200 list of Philippine company leaders released this month.

Globe’s performance in various categories was an exact repeat of the FEER survey results last year.

Globe also retained its other positions: second as most Innovative in Responding to Customer Needs, third in High-Quality Services/Products, and fourth among Companies that Others Try To Emulate.

The top spot was taken by burger chain Jollibee Foods, followed by food and beverage giant San Miguel Corp. and one of the country’s most diversified conglomerate, Ayala Corp.

According to FEER, the review 200 ranking for the Philippines reflected the extent to which the Philippines still depends on consumer demand to fuel its economy.

"Local spending traditionally keeps the Philippines ticking over in times of economic stress, as well as the billions of dollars flowing into the country each year from Filipinos working overseas. With much of Asia hobbled by the emergence of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) this year, and with the Philippines also showing signs of losing some of its global semiconductor manufacturing business to China, that trend is likely to strengthen in the future," FEER stated.

Other companies in the top 10 are cellular phone operator Smart Communications, Bank of the Philippine Islands, Ayala Land (a newcomer to the list), Mercury Drug, GMA Networks and ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp.

As in the past years, Hong Kong-based ACNielsen Research conducted the survey, asking readers to rank 153 multinational corporations and between 29 and 40 local companies in each of 12 countries.

In addition to overall leadership, each company was ranked according to quality of products and services, the long-term vision of its management, its innovativeness in responding to customers’ needs, its financial soundness, and its status as a copany others try to emulate.

Globe is a full-service telecommunications company owned by Ayala Corp. and Singapore Telecom International.
