In a short message following the exchange of documents between diplomats of both countries led by Romanian Ambassador to the Philippines Radu Homescu and Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Delia Albert, Ortiz-Luis said the bilateral economic cooperation between the two countries is still in its formative stage.
He added that he accepted his appointment as a bridge to widen Philippine markets and initiate partnerships.
"I have gladly accepted the challenge given to me with the new opportunities to both countries foremost in my mind," he told representatives of the diplomatic community and a select group of leaders during the event.
Trade with Romania, which started only in the late 80s was described by export leaders as only a drop in the $70 billion trade of the Philippines with the world.
The new responsibility, Ortiz-Luiz noted will be a great opportunity to widen and expand economic partnerships between the two countries that share a uniquely strong Christian tradition apart from their neighbors.
Some areas of partnerships he revealed have been identified, including pharmaceuticals, railway technology and development, heavy industries, technology exchange in modern agriculture and infrastructure projects.
Next to electronics, processed foods and garments, the Philippines has good prospects of exporting its food products like pineapple, mangoes and bananas to Romania and to buy industrial goods in return.
