Mr Transparency and good governance?
October 2, 2003 | 12:00am
Presidential Adviser Roberto R. Romulo, who won as a candidate for the Board of Directors of the Manila Polo Club last year under the banner of good governance and transparency, seems to be a little "not transparent" about the grants that were given to his IT Foundation, especially the ones received from abroad. With the era of foundations, starting with the Marcoses to the Luwalhatis, its only natural that the public must be given a clear picture of where the money was spent, especially because he is a government official and close to GMA according to him. Just asking, Mr. Good Governance
This Congressman hit the front pages recently when he said "Its a sin to tell a lie." However, our ear-spies overheard that this same lawmaker is actively, and quite brazenly, pursuing the wife of a businessman. Our ear-spies overheard that the wife of the businessman and the congressman were introduced to each other by a newsman from Iloilo, who allegedly works on the side as a "pimp" for the lawmaker. Rumor has it that this alleged predator-congressman keeps on texting the wife of the businessman, letting her know where he is, and even gives her chocolate brownies, which the Congressmans wife baked. At one instance, the congressman allegedly texted the businessmans wife that he was with fellow representative Butz Aquino in a chopper going to Vigan. According to our ear-spies in Congress, when the businessman suddenly found out about the rapacious flirting and illicit relationship, and confronted his wife about it, somehow the congressman found out and immediately changed his telephone number. Word is spreading in the halls of Congress that since the businessman is almost dead broke nowadays, the congressman is allegedly using this to his advantage to wantonly sweep the businessmans wife off her cute little feet. A question for the congressman: Is lying with someone elses wife a lesser sin than lying?
According to our ear-spies, theres a long-standing joke among the employees of one of the government agencies that most of the officials chosen to lead its private sector arm have only air between their ears. According to our email ear-spies, "Just spend five minutes with them and almost everyone will wonder why these people got their positions." Rumor has it that these officials are occupying their posts all because they were under the good graces of the Department Secretary who personally chose them for the job. Thats probably why this department is not harvesting enough revenue for the country to use to build up its economy, when in fact, most economic braniacs are saying that its the most profitable of all agencies if only there are competent people in the team. Well, our ear-spies say that there are. However, are they doing anything to the emptyheads in the midst?
According to our ear-spy social weather monitor, the country is now more divided than ever because of the political fever thats heating up between the rich and the poor, between the Lakas
and the NPC, between Ping and Pidal. In fact, some of the members of Lakas are ready to break away from the party to form their own political group from Lakas to Kalas. But the real division is seen in the C-D-E class (and some closet fans from Forbes Park) because now they are divided on who to believe Joey or Kris. But the real winner of this real-life telenovela are the big giants PLDT because of the numerous calls being made by Filipinos to their relatives abroad for a blow-by-blow account of the latest developments, and the networks ABS-CBN and GMA-7.
