SSS names Mitsumi as outstanding employer

- Pia Lee-Brago -
The Social Security System (SSS) has chosen a leading electronic components manufacturing company as this year’s over-all outstanding employer.

Cebu’s Mitsumi Corp. won this year’s SSS Balikat ng Bayan Award and bested three other contenders, a bank and two giant companies, to win the annual award as model SSS employer.

"Companies like Mitsumi boost productivity and help enhance SSS programs in the countryside," SSS president and chief executive officer Corazon de la Paz said.

Mitsumi also bagged the award for Outstanding Employer for Visayas while Metrobank, Yazaki-Torres of Laguna and Del Monte Philippines of Bukidnon won the Outstanding Employer for National Capital Region, Luzon and Mindanao, respectively.

De la Paz said Mitsumi won in all aspects of the award criteria such as full SSS coverage compliance, regular payment of contributions, up-to-date loan repayments and no complaint from employees.

Mitsumi Corp. is the largest electronic components manufacturing company in the Philippines. The company, which employs 17,000 skilled workers, manufactures computer peripherals and electronic components.

Launched in 1993, the Balikat ng Bayan Awards are given to companies for their outstanding performance as employers that best promote SSS programs.

Other Balikat ng Bayan awardees were Philippine National Bank, Best Paying Bank; Metropolitan Bank, Best Collecting Commercial Bank; Green Bank of Caraga, Best Collecting Rural Bank; RCBC Savings Bank, Best Collecting Thrift Bank; China Bank, Best Participating Financial Institution for Social Development; and Union Bank, Best Participating Financial Institution for Housing Loans.
