Nenaco bags AsPac Excellence Award

Negros Navigation Co., Inc. (Nenaco), the shipping subsidiary of Metro Pacific Corp. (MPC), earned the recognition as the Most Outstanding Shipping Company of the Philippines for 2003 in the prestigious Asia Pacific Award for Excellence given by the National Consumers Affairs Foundation.
The annual Asia Pacific Excellence Award (APEA) honors outstanding companies, services, and consumer products in the Asia Pacific Region, which exemplified remarkable commitment to excellence. The winners were selected through random client survey, research, opinion polls and thorough evaluation of the Board of Directors, which are composed of respected government and business industry leaders based on the following criteria: Quality Service 35 percent; Public Opinion and Survey 25 percent; Contribution to Public Service 20 percent and Pricing 20 percent.
National Consumers Affairs Foundation (NCAF) chairman Seiji Yii-Kagawa said that Nenaco made substantial progress in a span of less than two years through sweeping changes in the organization and fast-tracked improvements in the countrys business operations which was greatly felt not only by customers, but by the whole maritime industry.
"Nenaco was able to manage a complete turnaround, from a company facing the brink of bankruptcy to one of the most profitable shipping companies in the country," Kagawa pointed out.
He added that Nenaco made a very good impact in the community by being the only shipping company to offer free porter services for its passengers. Nenaco also continues to provide livelihood opportunities to people in its nearby communities benefiting thousands of families.
Nenaco was also commended for effectively implementing a value-based performance and management system known as "Gung Ho," that extends to all employee levels including business alliances.
"Our Gung Ho program became a powerful driving force that resulted to a more efficient, result-oriented and highly motivated workforce. We have a strong sense of mission and values which drives us to always be the best we can be," said Nenaco president and general manager Conrado Carballo.

It has 15 ports of call across the nation including Manila, Bacolod, Iloilo, Cebu, Puerto Princesa, Dumaguit, Dumaguete, Ozamis, Roxas, Iligan, Estancia, Tagbilaran, General Santos, Cagayan de Oro and Zamboanga.
