DTI junks anti-dumping case filed by PIPPI

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) dismissed yesterday the anti-dumping case filed by the Philippine Industrial Paper Packaging Industry (PIPPI) against imported corrugating medium from Thailand for lack of merit.

Corrugating medium is used as packaging material for appliances, computers, telephone, garments, handicrafts and some food items.

The DTI said the anti-dumping case was dismissed after investigation by the Department showed that the volume of dumped imports as well as the provisionally estimated margins of dumping are below the minimum required levels.

The DTI pointed out that the provisionally estimated margin of dumping is less than two percent of export price.

Likewise, the volume of dumped imports is negligible as it accounted for less than three percent of imports.

More specifically, the DTI cited, the provisionally estimated margins of dumping for corrugating medium from Thailand ranged from negative $6.67 per metric ton to negative $38.23/MT or negative 2.98 percent to negative 18.04 percent of export price.

Further, the DTI said, the volume of allegedly dumped corrugating medium was at 215.23 MT or only 0.64 percent of total Philippine imports.
