Teodoro bats for immediate amendments to Constitution

-
An immediate move to amend the Constitution for a government structure more conducive to economic growth is being advocated by Tarlac Rep. Gilbert C. Teodoro Jr.

"A careful analysis of the ills that plague the Philippines will show that mere legislation is useless to correct them," Teodoro, congressional head of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), said. "The longer we wait, the deeper he Philippines slides into the pit it is in. It will then become harder to turn things around."

Rather than pretend that the situation may yet improve, the Tarlac congressman said that the biggest factor affecting the Philippine economy is the government itself. "To improve the economy, it is imperative to re-structure the government," he stressed.

Amending the present situation, Teodoro added would allow correcting certain economic provisions that would spur economic, growth, increase jobs and income and improve the productivity and competitiveness of the Philippine economy.

The congressman also batted for pushing through with the scheduled elections, saying that he will oppose any move to postpone them. He pointed out that the next set of elective officials will have the important task of transitioning the country into the new set up . "The quality of the implementation of a new Constitution in its transition phase is just important as the Constitution itself," he said.

Teodoro likewise emphasized that "Charter change should not be transformed into an alternative forum for early politicking by those who aspire for political positions."
