Subic exports jump 41% in 1st 9 months

The Subic Bay Freeport posted a 41-percent increase in export volume in the third quarter this year, Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) chairman Felicito C. Payumo said yesterday.

Payumo said the freeport’s exports from January to September this year amounted to $1.02 billion, exceeding its $1-billion annual export performance.

"We are proud of this thriving progress in the manufacturing sector despite unstable worldwide market condition," Payumo said, adding that the freeport’s export growth could be attributed to the "top-quality output of thousands of highly skilled and dedicated Filipino workers."

For September alone, records of the Philexport One Stop Shop Documentation Center showed that export value posted a 21-percent increase from last year’s $86 million to $104 million this year.

Payumo pointed out that "the best Filipino-made products continue to flood the world market and we should be proud of this achievement."

Based on the Subic Freeport’s export performance for the first nine months of the year, Payumo projects a record-breaking export value of $1.4 billion for the whole year.

Wistrom Infocomm (Phils.) Corp. (formerly Acer Information Products Philippines) remains as the Subic Freeport’s consistent top-notcher among all other manufacturing firms operating in the special economic zone. Japanese computer parts maker Sanyo Denki ranked second with a total export value of $27 million.
