Meralcos Human Resource Development/MMLDC, a state-of-the-art training and development center located in Antipolo City, was officially certified to the 2000 version of the ISO 9001 standard recently.
The ISO certification is a total quality management (TQM) program initiative under its business process management component.
The certification of its quality management system (QMS) would help MMLDC attain its vision of becoming a world-class training and development center that will set the standards for the utility industry.
With its services being offered to external clients, the certification can serve as a business reference between MMLDC and potential clients thereby increasing its marketability. It will also assist the center in securing business with foreign companies or multinationals.
Being ISO certified also gives the customer and the management an assurance that there is consistency in quality and delivery of products/services; give competitive advantage over other training centers which are not certified to ISO standards; and ensure efficiency in operations since the documented procedure could eliminate non-value adding activities.
"Business processes have to be managed to make them more effective, efficient and adaptable to changing customer and business needs," said Leonisa de la Llama, vice president and human resources head of Meralco.
To date, MMLDC is the only development center in the Philippines that is certified to the ISO standards.
