Ionics bares new president of unit

Publicly listed Ionics, Inc., one of the countrys leading electronics manufacturing services providers, announced the appointment of Jan Doets as president and chief operating officer (COO) of its principal subsidiary Ionics EMS, Inc. effective March 1, 2002.
Doets was formerly vice president of Philips Optical Storage and industrial manager of the Business Line DATA based in Belgium. He has extensive experience in research and development, logistics, outsourcing, management development and manufacturing, including coordination of large-scale, multiple-location projects in development centers in Japan, Singapore, Belgium, Germany and Austria.
In the last 10 years, he has served as senior project and plant manager in Philips various audio-video production facilities in Belgium, Singapore and Austria and finally as vice president in Optical Storage and Business Line DATA. He has a master of science degree in industrial engineering from Delft University, Netherlands.
"We envision Mr. Doets carrying out the transformation of Ionics from its manufacturing business model to that of a supply partner of global IT and consumer electronic corporations," chairman and CEO Lawrence Qua said. He expressed confidence that the new president, with his involvement in Philips turnkey projects with various EMS companies, will be able to take the company to the next level of technological competency and business focus. Doets takes over the position of COO from Remedios de Jesus who retires from the company effective Feb. 28.
