Comm’l rates at NAIA 3 cheapest in Asia — study

-
Rates for commercial space at International Passenger Terminal 3 (IPT3) which will open this December will be the cheapest in the region. Compared with the rates in other airport terminals, the rates to be imposed by Philippine International Air Terminal Co. (Piatco) builders of NAIA 3 will range from $8 to $16 depending on the location or space inside the terminal.

A comparative study of prevailing rates in neighboring ASEAN countries like Penang Airport in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, showed $150 is being charged per square meter of office space a month while in Singapore, the rates there is pegged at $30/sqm. In Hong Kong’s Chek Lap Kok airport the rates range from $50 to $500 a month while in the Narita Airport in Tokyo, the rates are at $66 per square meter.

Piatco spokesperson Moises Tolentino, assured the public that under the concession agreement, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) would regulate all public utility fees like terminal fees, check-in counter fees, aircraft parking and tacking fees.

Though the rates of NAIA 3, which is slightly higher, than those being charged by NAIA 1 ($6-$10), the people should consider that aside from using state-of-the-art equipment, the facilities are better equipped offering spacious well-wishers lounge, ecumenical chapels, food galleries, duty-free shops, and modern business conference rooms, Tolentino added.

German based IT companies Lufthansa Systems and Debis FRA have been tapped to handle the terminal management systems of the new airport. The new terminal will reflect the latest technology on the market for improving the standards of Philippine Airports.
