Stockbrokers, business groups endorse Camacho

Member-brokers of the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) and a group of local businessmen are endorsing the confirmation of Jose Isidro Camacho as secretary of finance.

In a letter to the Commission on Appointments, member-brokers of the PSE said "with the current depressing economic and financial situation, we further recognize that the country needs the most capable and qualified professional in the government to provide strong leadership."

In a separate letter to the members of the Commission on Appointments, the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI) and the Batangas Province Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BPCCI) also endorsed the confirmation of Camacho.

"Our country today is faced with tremendous socio-political and economic financial challenges. Good governance and sound financial management are the keys to reversing these depressing economic situation," Roberto Montelibano, president of the MBCCI said.

Likewise, Rosalinda A. Perez, president of BPCCI said "Camacho possesses the right combination of experience and skills that can make him a definite asset to the government."

These business groups cited Camacho’s global work experience with two financial institutions, his Masters in Business Administration from the Harvard Business School and his work on the passage of the Power Reform Bill as Energy Secretary and the legislation of the Anti-Money Laundering Act.
