House cites top exporters

Exports have been recognized as the main source of foreign revenue of the Philippines. The last three years have however seen a lot of mostly political and economic setbacks for the industry which accounts for about 50 percent of the countrys gross domestic product.
Despite the very bearish business climate particularly these two years, there were export firms that continued to show resilience through sustained marketing campaign, coupled with their thrust to constantly innovate and improve on their management and production systems.
In fitting recognition of the exemplary performance of these export companies, the Gawad Angking Galing award was conferred by the House of Representatives to the top two large-, medium-and small-scale firms that earned the most export sales last year. These firms were included in the list of the Top Sectoral Exporters as generated by the National Statistics Office for the year 2000.
The awarding was held for the first time during the opening ceremonies of the National Exporters Week at the Batasan Pambansa.
The large scale category winners were Intel Technology Phils., Inc., a leading electronics firm making integrated circuits, chip sets, memory cards, high-end microprocessors and related products; and Dole Philippines, Inc. producer of pineapple, local Cavendish bananas, flowers and marine products.
Tamilee Industries, exporter of holiday decors, and Ecofarm System Resources, Inc., which is into pearl farming, received the awards in the medium-scale category.
Winners in the small-scale group were Tropical Houseware International Inc., exporter of gifts and housewares, and Ever Rise Ceramic Manufacturing Corp., maker of porcelain and ceramic figurines and containers. Philexport News and Features
