The award was presented to Philfoodex president Jesus T. Tanchanco Sr. by SERDEF chairman Francisco R. Floro, Prof. Ernesto Pineda, SERDEF executive director and Emmanuel T. Velasco, chairman of the awards committee.
The evening occasion, attended by its founding officers headed by Vicente R. Jayme and other awardees including Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines Foundation president Rose D. Teodoro, representing the family of the late Don Toribio M. Teodoro, coincided with SERDEFs Silver Anniversary which was held last Friday at the Virata Hall, UP Campus in Diliman, Quezon City.
The countrys biggest organization of food processors and exporters, Philfoodex has been an active partner of the government in the development of the food processing industry. It serves its members in every endeavor in research, planning, sourcing of raw materials, technology development, improvement of manufacturing efficiency and productivity, and maintenance of sound trade practices for a vigorous market development.
Philfoodexs main concern, according to Tanchanco is the development of its members, particularly in the area of free trade and globalization.
"If we are to penetrate the worlds lucrative markets, we talk of global excellence and when we talk of global excellence, we mean improving the quality of our export products to compete with the worlds best," he said.
The Philfoodex officers are Edward F. David, chairman; Tanchanco, president; Velia J. Cruz, VP for internal affairs; Vincent Lopez III, VP for external affairs; Divina G. Sonido, treasurer; and Bernardo Martinez, secretary. The directors are Joaquin Corral, Manuel C. Kiok, Pete Borja, Jonathan Godoy, Neil Bebing, John C. Kaw, Manny Macainag, Ruben See and Emmanuel Torejob.
Philfoodex has strategic alliances with chambers of food manufacturers in Metro Manila, Cebu, Davao, Negros, Baguio and other parts of the country. It has its offices at Bahay ng Alumni in UP, Diliman, Quezon City.
