PIATCO taps German firms for NAIA 3 project

Philippine International Air Terminal Co. Inc. (PIATCO), operator of NAIA 3, has tapped German-based IT companies Lufthansa Systems and Debis FRA to handle its terminal management systems. Lufthansa Systems will be providing the local area network infrastructure (LAN), baggage reconciliation system (BRS) and multi user system equipment (MUSE). For its part, Debis FRA will be providing airport operational database (AODB), flight information display system (FIDS), gate allocation system (GAS) and terminal management system (TMS).

All these systems will be having interfaces in between as well as to other systems like baggage handling system (BHS) and building management system, which will provide an automated, and reliable systems union.

The computers both in check-in counters and in gates will allow all airline agents to access their own host systems using the same computer with the ability of MUSE system. Airline agents will be able to print automated baggage tag and boarding passes, which will lessen the time spent for check-in process. The BHS will separate the baggage of the passenger automatically by reading the bar code of the bag tags and send these bags to related handling agents within the baggage make-up area.

Handling agents will use state-of-the-art wireless scanners within the baggage make-up area or even loading on the plane to reconcile the bags for additional security purposes. In case of any passenger offload, for security purposes, passenger bags will be offloaded too. The baggage reconciliation system will be able to give the exact location of the bag within the plane for quick response of the offloading process.

The resource allocation like gate, bridge, check-in counter will be automatic with the help of the gate allocation system. The building management system, which will monitor and control all systems within the building, will give flexibility to the engineering and maintenance departments for quick response to all problems within the system.

The sole purpose of these systems together will be to provide fast and dependable working conditions and media for all airlines, handling companies, terminal management and passengers. Considering the rapid change in technological aspects in all areas as well as the airport. NAIA IPT 3 will reflect the latest technology on the market for improving the standards of Philippine Airports.
