Global telecom solutions provider leases Mabuhay’s Agila II transponder

Mabuhay Philippines Sattelite Corp. (MPSC) announced yesterday that a transponder of its Agila II satellite was leased recently by Verestar, Inc., a global provider of network communications solutions that links business and the world.

And this early, MPSC and Verestar are already negotiating for the lease of another transponder.

With Mabuhay’s Agila II’s transponder, Verestar is now capable of providing high-speed Internet service at up to 60 mega bits per second to Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the region, including the Philippines.

Mabuhay, the first and only satellite operator in the Philippines, is a subsidiary of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co.

"This new relationship with an Internet-over-satellite heavyweight Verestar, Inc., is a strong indication that the Agila II satellite remains a competitive and reliable communications platform for Asian and transpacific Internet services," MPSC senior marketing manager Johnson Regalado said.

He noted that Agila II is a very efficient platform for high-speed Internet services to access the Internet backbone from North America. "It also has the capability to broadcast Internet transmission to multiple customers at the same time, commonly known as multicasting," Regalado added.

Verestar managing director for Asia Pacific Soo Yew Weng said ISPs in the countries covered by Agila II’s footprint now have the opportunity to work with Verestar to provide faster and more reliable services to their customers.

MPSC’s key resource is the Agila II Satellite which was launched in August 1997 on a Long March 3 B Rocket built by China Great Wall Corp. Agila II, which is complemented by strategic relationships with teleports in Asia (Singapore, Hong Kong, and the Philippines) and Hawaii, has standard and extended C-band coverage in Asia (including China and India) and Hawaii.

It also has a hot Ku-band coverage throughout the Philippines, China and Taiwan. Agila II is on the United States Permitted Space Staton List and is used by major international communications entities to fulfill their Asian, North American, and transpacific broadcasting, Internet and traditional and new generation telecommunications strategies.

Verestar, a wholly-owned subsidiary of American Tower Corp. and listed on the New York Stock Exchange, provides the network communications solutions that link business and the world.

It seamlessly delivers and manages customers’ mission-critical communications with end-to-end solutions, integrated technologies and flexible service options. Verestar also owns and operates Maritime Telecommunications Network, Inc. (MTN), offering Internet, voice and data services to the cruise ship, oil and gas industries, and General Telecom, Verestar’s international voice switching and exchange services company.
