Yuchengco, Korean firm tie up for P200-M call center

The Yuchengco-owned iPeople Inc. has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Telsk Co. Ltd. of Korea for the establishment of a P200-million ($4 million) information technology-driven contact center in the Philippines.

iPeople corporate secretary Guia Santos-Qua said the agreement calls for a joint venture arrangement with each party will contribute $2 million for the establishment of the contact or call center, a rapidly growing business in the country.

A number of global companies have set up call center operations in the Philippines to take advantage of its having a large supply of English-speaking personnel at relative low costs.

Qua said the purpose of the deal is to "arrange for successful proposals to customers to secure contracts for the joint venture participants to provide products or services in relation to the project."

iPeople is formerly the listed oil exploration firm Petrofields which was transformed into a holding company for the IT interests of the Yuchengco group.
