Rohm Electronics of Japan sets P2.1-billion expans

Despite the general downturn in the electronics industry, Japanese electronic giant Rohm Electronics has decided to expand its manufacturing facilities in the Philippines.

The facilities, estimated to cost P2.1 billion, would be located at the People’s Technology Complex in Carmona, Cavite.

Documents from the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) indicated that Rohm Electronics Philippines Inc. was expanding its facility to increase its production of microchip resistor, microchip capacitors (condensers), large-scale integrated circuits, test boxes and quad flat packages.

Rohm Electronics said it was spending P1.467 billion on the project which would manufacture electronic components for its markets in Japan, Asia, USA, UK and Germany.

Rohm Electronics Philippines is 79 percent owned by its Japanese parent company and 20 percent Singaporean owned.

On the other hand, Rohm Apollo Semiconductor was also expanding its facility to increase its production capacity for microchip transistors and capacitors. The project was estimated to cost P618.559 million.

PEZA also approved the P85.463-million new project of JPN Inc., a 100-percent owned Japanese company engaged in the manufacture and assembly of cleaning machines for PCB plates.

Lastly, PEZA approved the P70.4-million new project of Mitsumi Philippines Inc. another 100 percent-owned Japanese company engaged in the manufacture and processing of compact disc-audio recordable (CD-A) device and optical module (OPM).
