Globe Telecom awards $1-M deal to US firm

Globe Telecom has awarded Tyco Electronics Power Systems, Inc. a $1-million (about P53 million) contract to provide the power system for its backhaul transmission equipment and cable landing facilities in Nasugbu, Batangas.

Cable landing facilities are those transmission equipment facing international carriers under the $2-billion City-to-City cable network (C2Ccn) project where Globe has about five percent stake.

C2C is being constructed by C2C Pte. Ltd., a new private cable developer and operator formed by Globe’s principal shareholder Singapore Telecommunication Ltd. (SingTel) which has an approximately 60-percent stake in the undertaking. The local landing facility is scheduled for completion by the fourth quarter of the year.

Backhaul transmission equipment are those deployed by Globe to carry international traffic (voice, data, etc.) to and from Nasugbu to its network.

Globe Telecom is owned by Ayala Corp., SingTel International and Deutsche Telekom Asia. It provides cellular mobile telephone system (CMTS), fixed telephone and international communication services, International Private Leased (IPL) lines, Internet access, VSAT (very small aperture terminal) service, Inter-Exchange Carrier service, Frame Relay, Value-added Network Services (VANS) and other domestic data communications services.
