Smart, GMA sign agreement

-
Smart Communications, Inc., GMA Network, Inc. and GMA New Media Inc. recently signed a landmark agreement to introduce new wireless services that will promote the development of interactive television in the Philippines.

These wireless services allow cellular phone users to interact with popular GMA TV programs such as Debate and Star Talk by voting for certain issues, reacting to live TV programs and sending greetings. At the same time, they can access information about GMA TV shows through their Smart and Talk N Text cellphones.

Prior to this, Smart subscribers have been accessing GMA news and information through text messaging. As part of GMA’s multi-media coverage Eleksyon 2001, Smart subscribers were able to locate their voting precincts and monitor the quick counts via their cellphones. Soon, more wireless interactive services will be introduced by GMA in more TV programs in cooperation with Smart.

The signing was attended by lawyer Felipe Gozon, president and CEO, GMA Network; Roberto Barreiro, executive vice president for operations, GMA Network; Jimmy Duavit COO, GMA Network; Anastacio Martirez, head for personal communications and mobile services division, Smart Communications Inc.: Laurie Jimenez-Westfall, president and CEO, GMA New Media and Jerome Almirante, product development manager for mobile value added services, Smart Communications, Inc.
