Nextel, Smart now interconnected

Nextel Communications Philippines, Inc. president Emilio P. Festejo announced this week that Nextel subscribers can now call Smart cellular subscribers and Smart cellular subscribers can now call Nextel subscribers. The recent interconnection between the two networks has allowed easier access to each others networks.
Nextel is the countrys biggest trunk radio operator using the fully digital technology called iDEN (integrated digital enhanced network). Smart Communications is one of the countrys major GSM service providers.
Festejo said Nextel subscribers can now make calls to and receive calls from Smart cellular phones with numbers beginning with 0918 and 0919. Smart subscribers can also call Nextel subscribers who are in the country or traveling abroad.
He said this interconnection is expected to further increase the flow of traffic between Nextel and Smart.
He said the present convenience enjoyed by the subscribers of both networks will be further expanded with continuing efforts made by both networks in providing better and more efficient telecommunications service to its subscribers.
