Top Philippine Internet service provider Infocom Technologies Inc.has tied up with leading Hong Kong-based broadband infrastructure firm SpeedCast Ltd to make a number of cable TV programs accessible on line.
The first in the country, the partnership enables Infocoom subscribers to have free online access to SpeedCast's more than 30 multimedia channels of live, uninterrupted, round-the-clock cable TV programs in various languages.
These TV channels include Bloomberg USA and Bloomberg Asia, ChannelNewsAsia, Yahoo!, three Fashion TV channels, and a host of multicultural contents such as Arirang TV, MCM, and China Reel, among others.
"We are very pleased to work with Infocom to stream our live SpeedCast Multimedia content directly to subscribers. This partnership further expands our distribution platform, making SpeedCast Multimedia content available throughout the country. End users will now have online access to live financial data, news and entertainment directly from their personal computers," said SpeedCast chief executive officer Tom Choi.
Online access to such channels does not require any additonal software. The streaming content is viewable using Microsoft Windows media player, which comes free with any Microsoft Windows operating system.
SpeedCast delivers this multimedia content using its satellite IP (Internet protocol) network to bypass Internet congestion and minimize packet loss, thus optimizing bandwidth delivery of video content to ensure high quality viewing.
The SpeedCast’s content is accessible from a cobranded page on Infocom's homepage at www.info.com.ph.
"With this partnership, Infocom has created a milestone in the Internet industry as it pioneers the availability of multimedia content in the web. This just proves that Infocom is continuously looking for ways to give our subscribers a more enjoyable internet experience and increase their level of satisfaction," said Infocom chief executive officer Cecilio Lorenzo.
The country’s top Internet service provider (ISP), Infocom is the internet firm of local dominant carrier Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT).
Infocom Internet uses a state-of-the art system that accesses PLDT's extensive fiber optic and digital microwave transmission network, ensuring reliability, scalability and availability to all its subscribers.
Infocom offers dial-up service for fast connection, prepaid internet for convenient access, and filtered internet service (Netsafe) for kids.
For high-powered, high-speed and unlimited access, Infocom also offers PLDT My DSL, the fastest broadband residential service, and NOW@HOME Cable Internet for instant online upon switching the computer on.
There are also the dedicated dial-up service, for corporate customers requiring minimal number of workstations; lease line, for 24-hours, seven-days-a-week online access; and co-location service enabling companies to place their servers at Infocom's Data Center and gain access 24 hours, seven days a week without spending for a leased line.
While building on internet-based and emerging technologies, Infocom is also forging strategic partnerships and expanding its reach throughout the country, where it has the largest internet bandwidth.
Infocom is a founding member of the Philippine Internet Exchange (PhiX), a faster interconnection that allows ISPs to exchange local traffic in a given geographic area without going thru the US.
Now the Philippines’ leading ISP, Infocom is seen to define the new generation of ISP's in the country.
Infocom also provides other services like integration, content development, web hosting and web design, cable internet, and other value-added services like international and national roaming access.
