Two global giants formally joined forces recently to bring the Informatics-Ericsson certified WAP (wireless application protocol) developer program, a 30-hour, three-module course developed to harness the power of the mobile Internet, by signing an agreement for the offering of a WAP certification course in the Philippines.
This is in accordance with Asia-Pacific agreements signed in December 2000 by the companies’ Singapore-based regional offices, committing to the joint offering of mobile Internet training courses in major IT centers in the region, such as Singapore, India, Malaysia and the Philippines. The Philippines is the first of these countries to offer the Informatics-Ericsson certified WAP developer program.
Leo Riingen, Informatics Philippines president and CEO, said the partnership with Ericsson will allow students to understand and capitalize on the newest technology that will revolutionize how Internet and business will be delivered.
"While the Internet has dramatically changed the way we do things, the way we work and play, mobile communications can dramatically change the way Internet will be delivered. Informatics’ mission remains to be the provider of world-class IT education to Filipinos. It has been a challenge for us to keep up to the blinding pace of technology. And I would like to thank the Ericsson team for being our partner in this endeavor," said Riingen.
"I am very pleased that our regional partnership with Informatics has finally come to the Philippines. Our joint WAP certification program is intended to help educate a greater majority of Filipinos in the potentials of the wireless web," said Robert Etteborn, president and chief executive officer of Ericsson Philippines.
"In the next few months, we trust opportunities in training Filipino students in applications development for other emerging technologies such as BluetoothTM, GPSR and 3G will drive mobile Internet into the Filipino mainstream," he said.
The Informatics-Ericsson certified WAP developer program is open to programmers including content service providers, application developers, system integrators and network developers. It is likewise recommended to device manufacturers interested in developing web-based content, services and applications for WAP-enabled devices. Technical managers and Internet professionals are also encouraged to take the program.
Informatics, with over 250 centers in 30 countries, offers the widest range of IT programs and curricula certified and validated by international institutions like the National Computing Center and the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate.
Informatics Philippines has produced more than 200,000 graduates and is the preferred IT training partner of corporations.
