India’s leading IT school to enter RP

Local information technology (IT) schools will soon face competition with the entry of India’s leading IT school in the country.

NIIT, a global IT company engaged in IT education and training, software development and consultancy and knowledge solutions, is set to open five training centers next month in Makati, Manila, Quezon City, Alabang and Ortigas Center.

Responsible for bringing in NIIT is Mind Stream Inc., a joint venture between ePLDT, and Project Quest Inc., a venture capital firm led by former banker Francisco Dizon, New York Investment banker Benedict Perez and Jay Silayan.

According to Silayan, managing director of Mind Stream Inc., the country needs to remain competitive in the global IT Industry. To do so, he said, "we need to bring in the best IT education."

"NIIT is the only company worldwide that is competent in both IT training and education as well as software development," Silayan added. He said that although NIIT’s roots are in education, half of its worldwide revenues now come from software solutions.

Silayan added that as a global software solutions company, NIIT does IT consulting work for many Fortune 500 companies.

In turn, Silayan said, "all this learning from the real world is brought back to the classroom environment through NIIT’s education centers. This is what sets us apart."

Two of the more popular IT schools in the country are the AMA Computer School and the STI (System Technology Institute) Computer College.
