Nextel cuts IDD rates further

Nextel Communications Philippines, Inc. cut down to 25 cents its international direct dial (IDD) access rates to any country, the lowest ever offered by the local telecom industry.

Nextel president and CEO Antonio Urera said Nextel subscribers can call all countries at 25 cents per minute beginning Feb. 1 until March 2, 2001, anytime of the day with no airtime charges.

Urera said the promotional rate is Nextel’s way of showing the company’s appreciation to the business sector for its patronage.

The promotional rates will give businessman more time to talk with their partners, relatives and friends, he added. Some 80 percent of Nextel subscribers are businessmen and entrepreneurs.

The 25 cents promotional rate is made available through Nextel’s IGF operator.
