Filipino to head World Energy Council

Antonio del Rosario of the Philippines was elected chairman of the World Energy Council (WEC) at the organization’s recent executive assembly, which took place from Nov. 20-24 in New Delhi, India.

After serving for one year as chairman-elect, Del Rosario will become chairman of WEC at the World Energy Congress in Buenos Aires in October 2001. He will serve a three-year term, until the 2004 World Energy Congress in Sydney, Australia. As chief elected officer of the foremost global multi-energy organization, Del Rosario will work with WEC members in 93 countries to carry out WEC’s studies and technical programs and formulate energy policy for leading decision-makers and government officials.

Del Rosario currently serves on the WEC officers council as vice-chairman for Asia and is a past chairman of the WEC Philippines member committee. He is also president and CEO of Trans-Asia Oil and Energy Development Corp., Trans-Asia Power Generation, and Asia Coal Corp. in the Philippines and serves as senior consultant for Philippine Investment Management (Phinma), Inc.

In the past, Del Rosario was affiliated with Filoil, a Philippine oil refining and marketing company. He also served as executive vice president of the Philippine National Oil Co. and deputy minister in the Philippine Ministry of Energy.
