Northwest Airlines reported hitting 7.68 billion revenue passenger miles (RPM) in August, an increase of 4.6 percent from the 7.35 billion RPM in the previous year. The available seat miles (ASM) also showed an increase of 3.2 percent from 9.25 billion ASM in August 1999 to 9.54 billion ASM in 2000.
The airlines scheduled service in the Pacific region showed an improvement of 2.6 percent in ASM for the month of August and 5.3-percent increase in Northwests year to date performance.
"The increase in ASM means that we have added more flights in and out of the Pacific region," said Laurie Lofgren, general manager for the Philippines, Guam and Micronesia. "Our goal is to be able to provide our passengers in the Pacific more convenient connections to the US and Canada," she added.
Also, Northwest Airlines cargo ton miles (CTM) systemwide rose 6.1 percent from 1999s 195.0 million CTM to 206.8 million CTM in August 2000.
