SEIPI marks 16th Electronics Week

A top official of the Semiconductor and Electronics Industries in the Philippines Inc. (SEIPI) said the country’s leading electronics organization will mark its 16th year of operations with a program of activities to celebrate Philippine Electronics Week from Oct. 23 to 27. SEIPI executive director Ernie B. Santiago said the celebration will start with an electronics technology and business seminar dubbed "electronics.business@seipi 2" to be held Monday, Oct. 23 at the Rizal Ballroom of the Makati Shangri-La Hotel.

Speakers will include CEOs and technology experts from Intel, Texas Instruments, Amkor Anam, IDT, Analog Devices, Philips, Sanyo, Toshiba, Fairchild, Pricon, IMI, Ionics, Fastech, ATEC, Cambridge, Team Pacific, Temic, Lee Won and Fujitsu.

The seminar will feature talks on industry clustering, risk management global supply chain, e-business, telecommunications, IT and e-commerce. SEIPI has invited speakers from Zurich and Fedex Asia, Ceferino Follosco of DC, Ramon Dimacali of IBM, Manny Pangilinan of PLDT and Jamie Agusto Zobel de Ayala of Ayala and ITECC. Special speaker is Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Manuel Roxas II.

President Estrada will host the 62nd SEIPI general membership meeting in Malacañang on Friday, Oct. 27 to thank the electronics industry for being the exporters in 1999 with revenues in the billions of dollars.

The various networking committees of SEIPI will hold a number of technical seminars and industry-related activities throughout the week, covering electronics manufacturing and engineering, environment, finance, purchasing personnel administration, exports and imports traffic, and information technology.

Santiago said SEIPI plans to open manufacturing plants for factory line tours of high school and engineering students, sponsor regular sports fellowships, and hold the 2nd SEIPI Golf Invitational Cup on Oct. 25.
